Dapple Fashion – a traditional Bangladeshi made garments shop located in Shop 4, 1204-1209 Botany Road, Mascot has been running successfully from February 2007. In early September, 2009 the business was taken over by a Bangladeshi couple Pankaj Gomes and Jayoti Gomes. Since then couple have considerably improved their business as well contributed significantly to the community by attending and sponsoring various events in Sydney throughout the year.
Dapple Fashion is mainly a business who sells cloths and the styles that are mainly sold are very traditional Bangladeshi of latest fashion. And the cloths come all the way from various districts in Bangladesh but there are other trendy cloths too, which they source from Australia and sell to customers from various different communities.
The traditional cloths which are being stocked are, Salowar Kamej, Saree, Punjabi, Fotoya. Apart from that there are many embroidery stocks of Table Top, Table Mat, Napkin, Aprons, Handkerchief, Quilt Cover, Nakshi Kantha (A type of embroidered quilt which comprises folklore art of Bangladesh and West Bengal, India) and Bed Sheets. The traditional cloths are widely used for special occasions like Eids (Muslm Festival), Puja and Diwali (Hindu Festival), Pohela Boishakh (Bangladeshi New Year) and various other occasions like weddings, birthday parties by the people from sub-continents (Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal) and on the other hand embroidery products are highly regarded and sold to the various Australian communities over the Christmas time as gift items. During the festive season, the shop changes its external and internal outlook and creates an atmosphere which attracts more customers.
There are various other traditional items too which are being sold at the shop and among these are; Bangles, Ear Ring, Noise Pin and Jewellery items, which are very popular. The shop might look pretty small but it has much to offer and you wouldn’t be disappointed if you make a visit.
The shop owner is looking to expand the business. At the moment they have got one shop and they are planning to start another very soon. They are also planning to start selling their products online. This project is now underway and they hope to release it sometimes next year. They believe their online shop will not only be convenient for the community in Sydney but for all of the Bangladeshi communities across Australia.
